8000m峰14座のスピード登山。ネパール人登山家の挑戦

ワンシーズン（7カ月）で8000m峰14座を完登しようという野心的なプロジェクトが進行中だ。挑戦者はネパール人登山家ニルマル・プルジャ（36）。高所で活躍する山岳民族（シェルパ族）でなく、ネパールの平野部チトワン近郊で育ち、元・イギリス海兵隊の特殊部隊という異色の経歴をもつ。

今年4月下旬のアンナプルナ登頂を皮切りに、1カ月でネパール国内の6座に登頂、7月も1カ月弱でパキスタンの5座をものにした。13座目となるチョ・オユーまでに要した日数は158日（彼はこれらの登山中に複数の遭難救助にもかかわっている）。

最後の一座となるシシャパンマ（中国領チベット）は、入山を前にして中国側が「登山シーズン終了」を告げるというハプニングもあったが、ネパール政府の働きかけもあり、プルジャには特別な登山許可が下りたようだ。いよいよラスト・ミッションに向かう旨を自身のSNSで発表している。

8000m峰14座のスピード記録更新を掲げるこの挑戦は前代未聞で、その超人的なスタミナとバイタリティはまさに驚異的だ。

なお、韓国人登山家キム・チャンホやポーランド人登山家イエジ・ククチカによる8年弱という記録が今までの8000m峰14座完登最速記録であるが、14座すべてを無酸素で完登したキム・チャンホや、14座中10座を新ルートから完登、4座を冬季に完登したイエジ・ククチカとは登攀スタイルがまったく異なっており、同列で語られるべきものではない。
